How GovDirections uses AI
AI does the legwork; people make the decisions. Here is exactly what our AI team does, what it never does, how your information is protected, and how to reach a person any time.
Our promises
Every check-in note, payment note and sales email written by our AI is approved by a person on our team before it is sent.
We don’t sell or license your information to AI companies, and the AI services we use (Anthropic and OpenAI) don’t train their models on what we send them.
AI never submits a bid or contacts an agency for you. You always submit your bid directly to the agency.
Call (800) 492-8523, reply to any of our emails, or book time with us. A person reads every reply.
Meet the AI team 🎃 Happy Halloween
Each AI teammate has one job. They all wear the GovDirections uniform, and they all report to people.
Site guides
Answer questions and give tours of the site, in five languages.
Sam (English), Mateo (Español), Camille (Français), Wei (中文) and Layla (عربي) explain how bids, set-asides and alerts work, and point you to the right page. Look for the guide button at the bottom of the screen.
Member care
Help you get set up and keep your alerts working.
Tidy helps members who haven’t picked their industries yet: using your SAM.gov registration or your company’s website (never personal social media), Tidy sets up starter alerts so you don’t miss bids. You can change them any time in Preference Settings.
Rosa sends a friendly note if a card payment doesn’t go through, so your alerts don’t stop. River checks in if you haven’t logged in for a while, with your newest matching bids. A person on our team approves every one of Rosa’s and River’s notes before it is sent.
Sales
Find businesses that could be winning government work.
Mason, Grace, Storm, Coach, Priya and Theo look at public information (for example SAM.gov registrations, public award records and company websites) to find businesses in their field, and draft a short introduction with real open bids. A person approves every email before it is sent, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
Partner program
Looks after the people who refer new members to us.
Paige runs our Partner Program for consultants, unions, chambers of commerce and trade associations: Paige welcomes new partners, keeps track of referrals and earnings, and reminds partners before they go inactive. A person on our team approves every email Paige drafts, and every reply goes to a real person.
Research
Keep agency details accurate.
Sheldon keeps agency information current: official websites, bid pages and the published procurement contact, taken from the agency’s own website.
IT team
Helps build, test and secure our sites.
Claude, our AI engineering assistant (by Anthropic), helps our IT team build, test and secure our sites, working alongside Ardra and Mark. Every change is backed up and can be rolled back, and people decide what we build.
AI features you can use
These are tools you choose to use. Always check the official bid documents before you submit.
What our AI never does
- Submit a bid, or contact an agency on your behalf
- Make decisions about your account, billing or refunds
- See your card number (cards are held by our payment processor, Stripe)
- Read anything of yours you didn’t give us, like your email or files you didn’t upload
- Look up private individuals or personal social media
- Send a sales, payment or check-in email without a person approving it first
Your information
We use two AI providers. When a feature needs AI, we send only what that task needs (for example, your question, or the RFP you uploaded) and use the answer to help you.
- Claude, made by Anthropic: our AI teammates, Ask GovDirections AI, the site guides, RFP document analysis, proposal writing help, AI-matched bids, Supplier Directory profiles, GovReporter, and cleaning and sorting bid listings.
- OpenAI: ChatRFPs (Eagle Eye by GovDirections “Prompt to Win”) chat, including files you upload there. The GovDirections RFP Writer GPT on GovAdvice.com runs inside ChatGPT, under OpenAI’s own terms and privacy policy.
Both providers’ business services do not train their models on information we send them, and GovDirections does not sell or license your personal information to AI companies.
More detail, including the full list of what each provider is used for, is in our Privacy Policy.
Questions people ask
Is the AI always right?
No. AI can make mistakes, which is why people approve its emails and why you should always check the official bid documents. If you spot something wrong, reply to any email or call (800) 492-8523 and we’ll fix it.
Can I stop the check-in emails?
Yes. Just reply and ask us to stop. A person reads every reply.
What is the reminder River offers when I log out?
When you log out, River can email you once the next morning with your newest matching bids. It only goes out if you press the button, and it’s a standard reminder filled with your real bids, not a message written by AI.
Can I hide the guide button?
Yes. Press the small × on the guide button and it stays hidden for 30 days.
Will AI replace talking to a person?
No. AI handles the legwork so our team has more time for you. You can call, email, or book a one-on-one any time.
Why did an AI teammate set up my alerts?
If you hadn’t picked any industries, Tidy set up starter alerts so you wouldn’t miss bids. Change them any time in Preference Settings, or ask us to.
